We are winners of the Marie Claire Prix d’Excellence de la Beauté Awards!

On Monday 4th March, we were invited to attend the Marie Claire Prix d’Excellence de la Beauté Awards 2024 at the Corinthia hotel in London, and were delighted to go home as winners of the ‘Beauty Gives Back’ award at the prestigious event.

The Marie Claire Prix d’Excellence de la Beauté Awards is the crème de la crème of beauty awards. This global initiative celebrates the industry’s most ground-breaking achievements from the previous calendar year. The shortlist is editorially selected by Marie Claire Beauty Directors and the six British winners span hair, make-up, skin, body, sustainability and ‘Beauty Gives Back’, an award designed to celebrate a brand going over and above to enrich communities around the world. The Marie Claire beauty team were so impressed with Dr. Bronner’s work in this field, noting that over the years it has strived to create mission-driven business practices to try and make the world a better place.

Cliff Moss, Managing Director of the Healthy Sales Group, Dr. Bronner’s UK distributor was there on the evening to accept the award on behalf of Dr. Bronner’s on the night. He said, “Receiving the ‘Beauty Gives Back’ award is a tremendous honour and a testament to the extraordinary impact Dr. Bronner’s has made in the beauty industry. Dr. Bronner’s has an unwavering commitment to social responsibility and sustainability, so we’re thrilled this has been recognised in the UK with such a meaningful award. It underscores the significance of our collective efforts to create positive change and reinforces Dr. Bronner’s position as a pioneer in ethical and fair beauty.”

Michael Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner’s and grandson of company founder was elated to learn of this recognition. “The ‘Beauty Gives Back’ award is not just a recognition of our brand; it honors the values our grandfather Emanuel instilled in Dr. Bronner’s from the beginning. He believed in the power of business to create positive change, and this award reflects the impact our family’s commitment to social responsibility has had on the beauty industry. It’s a testament to the legacy we continue to build upon, and we are grateful to Marie Claire for acknowledging our ongoing journey as a mission-driven brand.”

Here are a few of the reasons Dr. Bronner’s won the award!

Dr. Bronner’s ethos spans back to its founder Emanuel Bronner who created the brand back in 1948. In 2023, the company celebrated its 75th anniversary and Dr. Bronner’s continues to deliver on its founder’s All-One mission to this day, using its six Cosmic Principles as a moral compass for operating as an ethical business. Still an independent, family-owned business based in California, Dr. Bronner’s is committed to honouring the vision of its founder by making socially and environmentally responsible personal care and food products of the highest quality, and by dedicating profits to help make a better world.  All One!

An Ethical Company

At the end of each year, Dr. Bronner’s publishes its All-One! Report which details the companies philanthropic giving, environmental impact, and other important company developments. In 2023, Dr. Bronner’s published its ninth annual All-One! Report entitled “Take Care of Spaceship Earth!” The report details that Dr. Bronner’s generated an estimated $199.5 million in net revenue and gave more than $5 million to charitable and activist causes. To view the most recent All-One! Report, visit: www.allone.report/2023.

The report highlights the origins and legacy of Dr. Bronner’s support for local nonprofits; supporting community betterment with its sister-company Serendipalm in Ghana through affordable school care systems and innovative recycling program, as well as empowering women in regenerative organic cocoa farming and production. Dr. Bronner’s is also supporting the creation of a pre-school and elementary school in Asuom, Ghana, at Serendipalm’s Regenerative Learning Centre. In addition to funding the infrastructure for the Centre, Dr. Bronner’s has coordinated Montessori training for the teachers and school staff and will serve 40 children from grades one through four, in addition to the 100 pre-school children already enrolled.

The report also details Dr. Bronner’s employee benefits and company finances, including fully-paid health insurance for all full-time employees, and the starting salary for regular workers set at $24.85 per hour—65% higher than California’s average hourly wage of $15.50 per hour. Dr. Bronner’s maintains a compensation ratio of the company’s highest paid executives to 5 times that of the lowest-paid fully vested position. Furthermore, the report contains extensive company statistics offering data for such details as the number of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour employees who hold managerial positions; and the total numbers for jobs created and total number of smallholder farmers employed as part of the company’s global fair trade supply chain.

Sustainability

Dr. Bronner’s creates ethically sourced products that are sustainably sourced and fairly traded. A leading Certified B Corp, Dr. Bronner’s currently holds the highest score of 206.7, and is recognised by B Lab as Best for the World in both the Community and Environment categories. In measuring its own environmental impact, Dr. Bronner’s 2023 All-One! Report shares data related to waste generation, gallons of water used, greenhouse gas emissions, and electricity consumed. In sharing this information, the company seeks to both document its progress toward reducing its environmental footprint, as well as encourage other companies to embrace transparency and accountability in the collective responsibility to address human-caused climate change, especially in the manufacturing sector.

In April, the brand will launch the “Heal Earth!” campaign in recognition of Earth Month. “Heal Earth!” will highlight the importance of Regenerative Organic Agriculture for a more sustainable and eco-friendly future. The “Heal Earth!” campaign involves worldwide educational events, promotions, product giveaways, and social media campaigns, with Dr. Bronner’s global partners using online retail, web, social media, and community spaces to educate the public about the collective need to “Heal Earth!”
