Dr. Bronner’s is proud to announce that we are now certified by the Environmental Working Group and feature on its Skin Deep database, an online guide to discovering safer personal care products.
EWG launched the Skin Deep database in 2004, to help to educate the public about the ingredients in their cosmetics and personal care products; Skin Deep is a resource that makes it easier for shoppers to understand potential hazards and health concerns related to these products. EWG’s ratings represent the best available information about the safety of personal care product ingredients. As science is evolving all the time, Skin Deep works to embrace new insights about the safety of chemicals in personal care products and keeping consumers informed. We believe that when you see the EWG VERIFIED® mark on a product, you can be sure it’s free from EWG’s list of chemicals of concern and meets their strictest standards for your health.
The EWG approved products are given a score of 0, meaning there are no ingredients of concerned. Products that don’t quite meet this very high standard are rated from 1 to 10, reflecting known and suspected hazards linked to the ingredients. Products rated between 1 to 3 on The Skin Deep ingredient hazard score, are still considered safe. A product’s hazard score is not an average of the ingredients’ hazard scores; it is calculated using a weight-of-evidence approach that factor in all of the hazards or health impacts associated with the ingredients.
So far, the Skin Deep directory features 3,580 Brands and 99,713 Products, 2,164 of which are EWG Verified® Products. Of Dr Bronner’s products, 53 products are listed and we are delighted to say that the lip balms, liquid soaps, bar soaps and sugar pump soaps are all EWG verified!
