Dr. Bronner’s Promotes Regenerative Organic Agriculture

Top-Selling Soap Brand Explains How Regenerative Organic Agricultural Practices Positively Impact the Environment

October 26, 2017

CDMX – With the recent rise in popularity of organic products, Dr. Bronner’s is encouraging the public to learn more about the impacts and benefits of regenerative organic agriculture. The term “organic” when used to describe a product, confirms that the ingredients in the product were cultivated and processed using organic agriculture practices. Organic crops are grown without the use of chemicals, synthetic pesticides, genetically modified organisms, petroleum-based fertilizers or other synthetic fertilizers. Conventional, non-organic agriculture reduces biodiversity of both plants and animals, and damages sensitive ecosystems. Non-organic agriculture causes substantial decline in the population of bees and other pollinators, kills the natural fertility of the Earth, and contaminates water supplies. Whereas, organic agriculture supports healthy communities and ecosystems, as it is safer for people and wildlife living near farms.

“Organic agriculture is sustainable, meaning that that you are helping to ‘sustain’ the environment and not cause it harm,” explains Michael Bronner, President of Dr. Bronner’s. “However, regenerative organic is a form of organic agriculture that does not just ‘sustain’ the Earth, but aims to help restore it through responsible farming practices like composting, cover-cropping, and reducing tillage down to incremental levels.  As a result, all those greenhouse gasses that have been released into the atmosphere due to irresponsible practices now have somewhere to go: back into the soil as sequestered carbon.  Thus, regenerative organic agriculture is one of the best means available to stabilize and mitigate the climate crisis,” Bronner continues.

As a company, Dr. Bronner’s is fully committed to using regenerative organic practices throughout its supply chain, wherever possible. When consumers also take responsibility for the products they use and the food they eat by consciously choosing food grown and produced using regenerative, organic practices, then they can help mitigate climate change, too. Recently, David Bronner, CEO of Dr. Bronner’s, identified those who put this approach into practice as “regenetarians.” An article published on the company’s All-One blog titled “Regenetarians Unite!” explains how the movements for regenerative agriculture and animal welfare movements can end factory farming, restore soil and mitigate climate change.

In that article, David Bronner states, “Ultimately, we, the eaters, are the ones who feed the machine. We should take responsibility to rebalance the cycle of life and death in the natural world, to re-enter the natural rhythms and connection with the Earth, and to make sure our dietary choices are sustainable and build healthy soil.” Furthermore, he proposes these three essential principles for a eating a regenetarian diet:

1. Regenetarian omnivores and vegetarians are willing to spend more for, and eat less of, meat, dairy and eggs, sourced only from correctly pastured and fed animals.

2. A boycott of “bad meat” is a hallmark of the regenetarian ethos. Animals raised in confined animal feeding operations (CAFOs) and fed conventional carbon- and water-intensive grains are an environmental and ethical disaster, inefficiently converting plant protein into animal protein and calories, especially in the case of feedlot (vs. grass-fed) beef.

3. Regenetarian vegans are committed to eating regenerative organic grains, legumes, and vegetables, and to modeling the discipline for their regenetarian omnivore comrades to “just say no” to bad meat. The scale of death that attends the overuse of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers on non-target wildlife in conventional cropping systems makes eating regeneratively a vegan imperative.
