Dr. Bronner’s and People Berlin to Host Second Round Table Discussion at Community Pop-Up Space in Berlin
Media and Public Invited to Round Table Discussion on “Worldwide Flight and Displacement — What Does the Future Hold for Europe?”
July 25, 2018
BERLIN, GER — The media and general public are invited to join a discussion on “Worldwide flight and displacement” on Tuesday, July 31, at 7:00pm CEST at Round Table, a pop-up space Dr. Bronner’s and People Berlin share in Berlin, Germany. Dr. Bronner’s, the global organic and fair trade soap and body care brand, with its European headquarters in Düsseldorf, manages the pop-up space in partnership with the charitable project People Berlin. The shared store concept is located in Hackesche Höfe in the Mitte District and functions not only as a retail space, but also as a meeting place for people from different social backgrounds as a platform for exchange and dialogue.
Germany is facing nationwide protests against inhumane political decisions being made in the Mediterranean region. Which nations can take in refugees? Where do these refugees actually come from? What is the situation concerning illegal smuggling? How is it even possible that people can refuse to help or rescue their fellow human beings? These and many other complex questions will be addressed by speakers, Julia Black from the International Organization for Migration in Berlin and Dr. Tankred Stöbes from Doctors Without Borders. These two organizations are among the initiatives refusing to wait for political “decisions from above” as long as refugees are dying of thirst, drowning, and fearing for their lives in the Mediterranean. The discussion will address the international causes and effects of “flight.” Both experts will deliver an analysis of the current situation with a focus on Europe.

People Berlin, a project of Karuna e.V., works to help young people in need. At-risk children and adolescents struggling with lack of opportunities, homelessness, addiction, or mental illness are given the possibility of working with fashion and art. The world of fashion is the ideal medium for transporting the visions and thoughts of young people and creating a perception for them within society. The organization provides space and opportunity for creative exchange through workshops where young people can learn conceptual work, develop their skills, and sharpen their self-perception. Together with designers and creatives, youth are invited to collaborate on artistic collections that deal with relevant contemporary themes and include both fashion and objects to give a voice to their ideas. This creative work helps young people to overcome the lack of prospects and to discover their own strengths and self-worth. People Berlin represents what constitutes the collaborative process: the people who are part of it.
