Awarded annually since 1984, the “Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year” award is given to individuals with a record of exceptional generosity, who demonstrate outstanding civic and charitable responsibility, and whose generosity encourages and influences others to embrace philanthropy in a meaningful way. Among her many philanthropic efforts, which include support for the YMCA, Boys to Men Mentoring Network, and the San Diego Children’s Discovery Museum, Trudy was especially recognized for this award due to her decades-long support for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego, and the progressive business practices and employee benefits Dr. Bronner’s currently observes, which were implemented within the company under Trudy and her family’s leadership.

“What distinguished Trudy from a field of remarkable nominees—all of whom give immensely to improve our region—is the tradition of family service that she represents and upholds for future generations,” said Lisa Ritchie, President of the Association of Fundraising Professionals. “With her global focus as CFO of Dr. Bronner’s, Trudy exemplifies world class philanthropy in San Diego, while staying true to her roots and finding great value in giving locally,” she said.

National Philanthropy Day, organized each year by the Association of Fundraising Professionals, is dedicated to recognizing the contributions of philanthropists across the country, and the professionals who help connect them with deserving causes. The San Diego celebration of National Philanthropy Day is among the largest and most successful in the country, attracting more than 1,000 participants including philanthropists, CEOs, Executive Directors, board members, development professionals and civic leaders.

“I am deeply honored and humbled to receive this award, and I thank the Association of Fundraising Professionals San Diego Chapter for all the important work they do to support and expand charitable giving in our community,” says Trudy Bronner, Chief Financial Officer of Dr. Bronner’s. “I encourage everyone to consider how they can give back to their community, and support a meaningful cause or worthy organization, in celebration of National Philanthropy Day.”
